More Depression

"A man's soul sustains him, but who can endure a broken spirit?" I am enduring another Depression flareup, loneliness, etc.—I have even suspended working on the manuscript for my next book.

Spiritbrokeness, unlike my sister's stomach flu, is a kind of sickness that doesn't just go away with prayer, fluids, and rest. Spiritbrokeness takes even more than prayer, sufficient hydration, and enough energy to heal—especially when it exacerbates and feeds off of, e.g., Depression in a vicious feed-be fed cycle.

To "The Berean Call" and Others (e.g., Others Whom Oppose Christian Psychology and Psychiatry)

With all due respect, is The "Berean Call" really "Berean"? Based on what I have read, I do not believe so. For example, you push the following lie:

"The fundamental problem is that although we know a lot about the biomedical etiology of neurological disorders, we still fathom embarrassingly little about the biology of the major mental illnesses. And even the burgeoning understanding of genetic and metabolic risk factors has not translated into clinically useful tests or cures. Modern technology has not produced a single blood test or brain scan that can be routinely used to diagnose depression, bipolar disease, schizophrenia or other common mental illnesses."

What makes it a lie is that it is information that is presented as if it still current. Scripture says to not bear false witness. Speaking of false witness, The "Berean Call" also does quite a job of twisting Exodus 20:4-5. The context is as follows:

"3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anythingthat is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments."

(From Exodus 20, NKJV. Also see Exodus 34:17.)

The context is in making images to worship. Again (with emphasis):

"3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anythingthat is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments."

When images, etc. were destroyed, they were images (e.g., Asherim) used to worship false gods. Otherwise, making images as commanded by God would be contradictory. For example

"“You shall make a veil woven of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen. It shall be woven with an artistic design of cherubim." (From Exodus 26)

Another example:

"20 The two pillars, one Sea, the twelve bronze bulls which were under it, and the carts, which King Solomon had made for the house of the Lord—the bronze of all these articles was beyond measure.
21 Now concerning the pillars: the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, a measuring line of twelve cubits could measure its circumference, and its thickness was four fingers; it was hollow.
22 A capital of bronze was on it; and the height of one capital was five cubits, with a network and pomegranates all around the capital, all of bronze. The second pillar, with pomegranates was the same.
23 There were ninety-six pomegranates on the sides; all the pomegranates, all around on the network, were one hundred.

(From Jeremiah 52)

As far as psychology and psychiatry, understand that:

  1. We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. If we can't love even ourselves, how can we love our neighbors?
  2. "Lo titzrach." "Thou shalt not murder." People have committed suicide and murder because of mental illnesses, etc..
  3. When Galatians 5 talks about drugs, it is talking about drugs used explicitly for occultic and other evil purposes. It uses the word "φαρμακεία" as opposed to "φαρμακο" (Hebrew "רפואה").
  4. God created everything, and certainly everything good (cf. Genesis 1, Psalm 24:1).
  5. God calls us to "[h]eal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give." (Matthew 10:8)
I could go on, although I hope that you get my point by now. By the way, I, as a Jew who has benefited from Christian psychology (psychos-logos, "ψυχή" and "λογος"), find a shame that you would decontextualize my Lord's Word for your gain. BTW, Deuteronomy 6:5 says to "love Yehovah your God with all your heart, and your soul, and all your might [e.g., your psyche]."

If Some Of You All Want To Keep Judging Ms. Dorvilier....

By the way, Google it, too. "Postpartum Depression violence". Some of you all need to grow up (at best) and/or get mental-health treatment (at "worst"/most). Also, do not buy that Postpartum Depression and violence have no link. Depression, let alone Postpartum Depression, can affect violence (including murder and murder-suicide). My father's paternal grandfather (not a Postpartum-Depressive man, let alone an untreated one, as far as I know) committed suicide because of Depression alone! How much more might a Postpartum-Depressive woman commit suicide and/or murder! In addition, I suggest that you keep silent if you have no clue about mental illness. After all, "Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding." (Proverbs 17:28, for Christians and so-called Christians—especially if you are Jewish. You well know that our fathers and mothers received all of Tanakh by the Second Temple Era). For everyone else, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Let me add, too, that I know about mental illness. I already explained enough about my mother's maternal grandmother's mother, did I not? I also explained enough my father's grandfather. Well, guess what? I inherited his Depression! I also inherited my father's OCD/Anxiety and ADD (He will admit to the ADD. He has yet to admit that OCD/Anxiety and Depression; though I clearly inherited his mental illnesses, and I remember those pill bottles that I saw in his now-former apartment. Let me tell you, now I know that not all of them were Vitamin B12 pills. I also have other memories that I did not think about at the time that they were present events.).

I, thus, know what I am saying. Therefore, I can open my mouth. I forgot to mention as well, and let me add, that my mother's paternal grandfather's father ended up in Springfield State Hospital due to Alcoholism. I also ended up in Sheppard Pratt once, and that's where I was diagnosed with Depression. I can give other examples as well, and now I am really going to tell the "some of you all" to shut your mouths and not say a damned thing about me—and I know that at least one of you thought that I was the fool in this case. I did not say that I am wise, by the way; so, you word twisters can really stop now (Do not think that I am clueless, either.).

I even suspect that quite a few of the "some of you all" are sociopaths and/or otherwise lacking compassion, critical thinking skills, and discernment as well. According to Fox News (who published an Associated Press article), "Authorities believe the mother doused her baby with an accelerant then set her on fire, Bewley said. They do not have a motive. The woman was taken into custody Friday night." Yet, some of you all have the hutzpah to cite "innocent until proven guilty" even in cases in which the motive is clear.

Postpartum Psychosis, Crime, Etc.

BTW, my sister wants to clarify that her rude background laughter had nothing to do with the subjects at hand, despite that I asked that she would be quiet while I made the video to which this blog entry applies.

Anyway, here are the statistics on Postpartum Depression and Psychosis:

2) http://www.cdc.gov/mmwR/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5714a1.htm

(Please note that Black and other Non-White, Non-Hispanic women are affected the most.).

How I Know That the Psychological Factors, Not The Sociocultural Factors, Are What Make Or Break A Woman...

Not to brag; but-- and my YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and other followers know this-- I am a living testimony to that. I'm not Rosa Parks, who had to overcome the sociocultural factor of WASP Male Supremacism in the 1950s. I'm not my Grandaunt MaryAnn, who (though I dislike much of what she has done over the years) I have to give credit for coming from a poor, working-class, Crypto-Jewish Catholic family in Great-Depression-downtrodden Ashley, Pennsylvania and earning a Ph.D. in Home Economics and teaching at Mansfield State College (now Mansfield University). As for what I dislike, by the way-- and my Internet followers know this--; she, to make a long story short, has unfortunately given in to familial sociocultural factors that are trying to psychologically influence her to be brought down.

I'm not a whole bunch of other great women, either. But I have my own psychological factors and sociocultural influences that I can't let get to me. Incidentally, I can somewhat sympathize with Grandaunt MaryAnn in some ways: after all, she is my grandaunt and shares many familial sociocultural factors with me. Of course, as I implied, I am mixed in sympathizing with Grandaunt MaryAnn; because as I stated, I dislike much of what she has done over the years-- and much of what she's dislikeably done involves giving in to familial sociocultural factors that are trying to psychologically influence her to be brought down.

Anyway, as I hinted, I'm just a normal woman and I have psychological factors and sociological influences that I can't let defeat me. I have Obssessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety, Depression which has influenced me to even almost take my life, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (a genetic and familial sociological factor), possible Aspberger's, unmedicated Attention Deficit Disorder, possible Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (because I was all but sexually abused by my dad-- and thank G-d that I was never sexually abused by him. The verbal, mental, some physical, and other abuse was enough. Anyway, continuing the list, I have; among other factors to deal with) divorced parents and Cerebral Palsy (and being a woman with a disability in any culture plays is a sociological factor that influences psychological factors).

I darned well know that if I can overcome (or at least mange) my psychological factors and at least try to not let the sociocultural factors get to me, these women-- even women who live in Third-World and cave-riddled Mohamedian countries-- can get Information Systems, Engineering, Biochemistry, and other Science, Technology, and Math Degrees if they want to-- even if (so to speak) the road is longer and harder for them. Besides, some of these women-- for example, in Tora Bora and Abbottabad-- are using sciences, technologies, and maths to (sadly and unfortunately) be the next suicide bombers or suppliers for Al Qadea, or-- in countries like Thailand-- recruiters for the sex-slave and other human-trafficking trades.

In conclusion, I am thoroughly and well convinced that even in Third-World Countries where women can and do use sciences, technologies, and math for bad; women can use sciences, technologies, and maths for good-- such as earning their Information Systems, Engineering, or Biochemistry degrees--, and even improve their sociological and cultural realms by overcoming the psychological factors that they let stifle them. By overcoming the stifiling psychological factors, they can and will overcome the sociocultural factors that try to bring their psyches down and not let them earn their science, technology, and math degrees.

All they need to do-- if, how, where, and when they can-- is to look to women, past and present, like the late Rosa Parks and like Dr. MaryAnn Gaydos, and even-- perhaps-- to women like me.
