Did Facebook Really Have To Wait Until The Murder Of Heather Heyer To Enforce Their Own TOS?

"Facebook does not allow hate speech or praise of terrorist acts or hate crimes, and we are actively removing any posts that glorify the horrendous act committed in Charlottesville."

Facebook surely has allowed other violations of their TOS for a long time, though:

"The company initially had allowed the page but decided as the event neared that it no longer met Facebook’s community standards because it was associated with “hate organizations.”

"The company said that it wants people to use Facebook to challenge ideas and organize peacefully, but draws the line when actions could put people in harm's way or involve hate groups."

How Facebook fails to enforce its own TOS and "draws the line when actions could put people in harm's way or involve hate groups" is beyond me. A mutual exclusivity exists between allowing "when actions could put people in harm's way or involve hate groups" and "draw[ing] the line when actions could put people in harm's way or involve hate groups.

Facebook has to either enforce its TOS to protect everybody against all hateful individuals and groups or not have a TOS at all. After all, Facebook shouldn't even have "allowed the page".

As The Old Jewish Saying Goes, And As I've Lived Especially Of Late...

What's keeping calm when you're Jewish? What's not worrying when you're Jewish?

As for me and being a Jewish Christian, I get the whole "Do not worry", "Come to Me, you whom are weary...", "Cast your cares...", etc.. Notwithstanding that (and here goes the "Oh, you of little faith"):

  1. Having Cerebral Palsy and IBS affects worry for good reason.
  2. Having OCD/Anxiety and ADD affects worry for good reason. By the way, I'm actually not the first one to have made an observation regarding whether OCD/Anxiety is inherently Jewish, and I was joking about that more to cope with my own OCD and wondering (so much for Jewish humor, as I got a hard time for making that observation)—the schtick about (I kid you not) OCD being a "Jewish disease" (as Dr. Avigdor Bonchek phrased the schtick whether OCD is Jewish) has been around for a long time. To be fair, look at, e.g., B'midbar 7 alone—having to be perfectly scrupulous about the right number of the right offerings like that could cause anyone to worry—then look at Vaiykra 11 and B'midbar 19—I myself (assuming that I'd survived birth and even had some part in Jewish life) would be washing and extra washing all day. Then try the fences around Torah. Overtime, that has to get embedded into one's genetic code and/or brain chemistry—thus, I think, part of why God desires mercy over sacrifice and obedience over burnt offerings, as His point seemed to be that ritualism as opposed to simply living by faith (e.g., "walk[ing] humbly with your God").
  3. Getting the amount of hate that I get (as I probably will over the observation above, for example), whether rightly or wrongly, affects me to always worry for good reason—even, e.g., who's going to unfriend me on Facebook or unfollow me on Twitter, thus reflecting online how what they think of me both online and offline? After all (as Curt Schilling of all people stated), people online are who they are offline and what they would be offline "if they could get away with it" (which he stated after two of his daughter's high-school classmates used Twitter to send her rape threats.
I could give more examples, though I think that three examples suffice—especially as I brace myself and bide to see how many more instances of Example Three will happen even over the next couple of minutes, especially in regard to Example Two.

Originally On LinkedIn: Facebook, Its TOS, and Algorithms?

A while back, a Facebook friend told me that Facebook apparently enforces its TOS by using algorithms. Algorithms—a well-over-$1-Million company uses algorithms to enforce its TOS?

"I believe the maker of facebook is sexist and racist. Something should be done about it. I got in trouble for swearing at a racist but he didnt get in trouble for being racist. Something is so wrong with that"
I wish that I could've replied to her comment with the observation that its more that Facebook is evidently not hiring enough people to enforce its TOS—and while I grant that there are multiple TOS-violation reports a day, I also grant that there are:

  1. Many people looking for jobs.
  2. People like me whom'd be glad to have a job helping Facebook enforce its own TOS, especially since many of us have been affected by TOS violators. As for me, I live in Maryland and could help enforce Facebook's TOS virtually—I can't drive (since I have Cerebral Palsy) and, while I'm working on being an author and analyst-commentator, would love to be off of SSI benefits as well to help Facebook crack down the kind of, e.g., ableism and Anti Semitism by which I've been affected. Of course, I have to be prepared for the reality that Facebook will see me as nothing more than my Cerebral Palsy and what mental illnesses I have—after all, why would Facebook see me as any different since they often don't care when an individual with a disability is attacked by a TOS violator?
  3. TOS violations that are so egregious, they've had to be reported to the FBI since Facebook wouldn't deal with them—and I remember that the FBI emailed me back per one threat that I reported and told me that I needed to forward the threat report to the Secret Service.
  4. Too many instances in which Facebook even restores accounts and pages of TOS violators—and one page that they restored involved a threat against Hillary Clinton, while another on which someone reported content posted an obscene "**** Facebook" meme regarding when Facebook actually did enforce their TOS.
Since Facebook probably won't hire me, though (See Point Two and consider the case of Katie Shoener in a non-Facebook field.), they could at least consider what I've written here & hire others whom are looking for jobs.

My Basic Twitter Philosophy

Update (November 14, 2024 or 12 Cheshvan 5784):

  1. If you unfollow me and I am following you, I will unfollow you in turn if I become aware that you have unfollowed me². Since I hold the philosophy that people online are a reflection of whom they are offline (including, as Curt Schilling pointed out, whom they would be offline if they could be that way offline), I have no time for you if you have no time for me, I have, as far as I recall, broken my unfollow-for-unfollow rule only twice, and that includes that I refollowed one person whom'd unfollowed me only because his work in his field is influential enough to merit for him a follow. I will also unfollow you if I recall that you followed me and then unfollowed me after I followed you, whether or not my recollection is correct.
  2. If you abuse me in any way on Twitter—for example, if you twist my words (or similarly libel me) and/or engage in Anti-Semitic attacks—I will report and/or block you. ³
  3. If you abuse others on Twitter, I will report and/or block you. ³
  4. RTs are not endorsements unless the original tweet is favorited and/or the RTs are noted as endorsements of the original tweets. What RTs often are is FOIP (for only informational purposes).
  5. While I do "unfollow for unfollow", I do not do "follow for follow"—I follow whom I want to follow, and I will follow those whom follow me if I find them worth following.
  6. While and since I won't, and I really even can't, report every abusive instance and/or block every person whom's engaging in abuse, I will call out someone whom's being abusive if I feel (or at least hope) that I can reason with them. ³
  7. I get Twitter notifications via text messages—and I don't have a smartphone¹, unlike some of these rich kids and others whom can afford smartphones. As soon as I get a chance to respond to and/or RT tweets, I'll respond to them; and be aware that I can see on my phone what abusive tweets you deleted and/or thought that you blocked from my view—and I will report and/or block you, and/or call you out. ³
Addendum [April 9, 2019/Aviv 3, 5779 (Before sunset)]:

  1. The Democrats & others who want to think that the Modern Right & the Alt Right are the same as well as try to demonize the Modern Right, ignore the #NeverTrump movement are only going to make the #NeverTrump movement fight harder against Trump's trying to destroy the GOP. In other words, their attempts to throw out revisionist tropes and thus give Trump what he wants haven't worked in the way that they wanted it to do so. If you're one of those revisionists and you're thinking about parroting out your revisionism as a response to my tweets, then, please keep away from me. On the flip side, if you're a Trumpite or one who dreads Clinton more than fears Yehovah, also please keep away from me if you're thinking about troping out your own revisionism in response to my tweets.
  2. On that note and a general note, common sense holds that one doesn't have to unnecessarily respond to something that he or she doesn't like. So, please, just don't respond to my tweets if you don't like them and have no reason to respond to them.

Addendum [November 4, 2019/Cheshvan 6, 5779 (Before sunset)]:

"Rep. [Whomever]:

"By impeaching Trump, Congress would be handing him 25th Amendment rights and presidential legitimacy. The law (based on the law-from-the-bench principle regarding sitting presidents and indictment) says that one cannot indict a sitting president, but it doesn't say that one can't indict an illegitimate president. The assumption was always that and is that the sitting president had and has to be a legitimate one, since there is the principle behind the law as well as the law itself. Thus, please push for Speaker Pelosi and the rest of the House to acknowledge that Trump is not a legitimate president and thus should not be given impeachment rights, let alone 25th Amendment rights or presidential legitimacy.

"Thank you for your time and consideration of my request."
¹ Addendum: July 2, 2020/10 Tammuz 5780: I do have a smartphone now. It was a gift for Hanukkah, Christmas, and my 30th birthday; and I honestly resisted letting one anyone get me one and using one for a long time. What's not changed: I still block and/or report abusive tweeters.

²Addendum, same date: I realize that part of my problem is that I don't enforce my own unfollow-for-unfollow rule enough (sometimes because I'm unsure right away if someone followed me in the first place). To me, how one interacts with me online tells me how he or she would interact with me offline. In other words, I need to start meaning that I don't have time for anyone whom doesn't have time for me or wants me to have time for him or her. I will thus be enforcing my own rule more.

³ All of that fits my motto, "If you don't stand up to evil, evil will stand you down—and that is evil."

Originally On LinkedIn: The Injustice Of How Job Seekers Like Me Are Under the Radar Of Recruiters On LinkedIn(-Turned-Facebook?) | Nicole V. Czarnecki | LinkedIn

via Baker131313 on Wikimedia Commons

This issue reoccurs and reoccurs because of people whom use LinkedIn as another social-network link. Even today, someone who I'm following on LinkedIn had to ask someone else to "kindly refrain" from sharing a lewd and sexist photo on the "professional environment" that LinkedIn is supposed to be—and this person is already luckily in the workforce. As for people like me, the best that we can do is report that kind of content—and I was about to report the post until I saw the comment of whom I'm following. Needlessly to say, I liked the comment and did not feel the need to report the post once I could assent with a "Be professional" sentiment.
This doesn't change, however, that I majored in Political Science and paid attention in Political Research Methods 301 only to have my applications of my learning get entirely ignored while the LinkedIn abusers get commended. So much for the apparently-lazy Millennial stating this regarding a study about workaholism while professionals lazily abuse LinkedIn:
This is generalizable among and extrapolatable to only Norwegians. A study in a more-diverse country needs to be done.
I could be tempted to say that I wasted my time going to college since the LinkedIn misusers are wasting my and other aspiring professionals' time, anyway. Nonetheless, I can at least stand up at the end of the day and testify that the apparently-lazy Millennial had the integrity to at least try to go to college (which I did, and I graduated college with a B.A. in Political Science despite my Cerebral Palsy, mental illnesses, and other issues), the integrity and persistence to keep seeking a job despite that I'm a stigma with or without a college degree (since the sad reality is that those of us who have physical disabilities and mental illnesses are stigmas in of ourselves according to society, including the workforce whom deliberately looks us over and shuns us otherwise), and the integrity, persistence, and determination to find a job by using LinkedIn and other resources (including social media, such as Facebook and Blogger) appropriately (After all, e.g., Hadassa WordPress reached out to me when I was blogging with "The Times Of Israel"—and that's part of why I've had one book published so far, and I've not stated that I'm an aspiring author for nothing.).
I am—as others are—trying to use LinkedIn to meet professional goals, and I'd like to see those whom use LinkedIn to meet social-media goals go meet their social-media goals elsewhere and save LinkedIn for professional pursuits.
PS Per the image above, via Baker131313 on Wikimedia Commons: the image fits because I have Depression; my aunt attempted suicide in my last year of college, and my estranged paternal grandfather died while I was studying for final-semester exams. Yet, here I am being paid only ~$25,000 in student debt and joblessness almost three years after graduation while LinkedIn abusers have jobs and money to cover their bills.

Why LinkedIn Either Needs To Return To Its Original Purpose Or Restart With A New Platform

Professionals such as Ted Bauer have posted about it, and aspiring professionals like me have posted about it. Of course, "it" is "how LinkedIn is becoming another Facebook or Twitter". As I've stated, I didn't come onto LinkedIn to use another Facebook or Twitter—I came onto LinkedIn to look for a job and volunteer opportunities, and be discovered as an aspiring author, etc..
Others have also come onto LinkedIn to look for and be found for jobs, volunteer opportunities, and desired careers. I am sure that my fellow job, volunteer-opportunity, and career seekers feel frustrated with LinkedIn becoming something like "LinkUp".
Thus, LinkedIn either needs to return to its original purpose or restart with another professional-network platform and leave LinkedIn/"LinkUp" to those whom (with all due respect) want to turn LinkedIn/"LinkUp" into a break-from-work or party-at-the-office website. My own suggestion is that LinkedIn could build and brand their new digital platform as "WorkBook" (Notice: "WorkBook"), and have the professionals and aspiring professionals migrate from LinkedIn/"LinkUp" to WorkBook.
On WorkBook, LinkedIn would forbid any content that is not related to one's work and/or that is not related to professional life to be shared. Meanwhile, I should note that even though I've been imperfect in my use of LinkedIn, my own imperfections don't justify or excuse the imperfections of others—and (the obvious converse is that) the imperfections of others don't justify or excuse my imperfections—and I hope that I'll be the first to admit when I'm imperfect in my utilization of LinkedIn.

Update (Not in the original post, although shared on LinkedIn; via GoComics.com):
696369f0b0ba01333c69005056a9545d

On LinkedIn, I shared this with "An example of why waiters may lose their jobs (and really, why any employee might): i.e., badmouthing the employer's product to a customer of the employer". This is the kind of item that one can share on LinkedIn if he or she can explain why it relates to one's professional life.

An Open Letter To Everyone Whom Has And/Or Could Harass And Bully Me For My Beliefs, Etc.

The non-underlined text is in regards to what prompted me to write this letter to a specific person. The underlined text is specific and general, as I have had others similarly harass and bully me in the past:

My belief in Yeshua is not relevant to the subject of homosexual acts as to how that the treated in the Torah, which is a common ground for both Messianic and Non-Messianic Jews. I even told a fellow Messianic that proselytizing is unacceptable and intolerable. Your attempt to embarrass me for my beliefs is a violation of the Facebook TOS as well as Torah.

Per the Facebook TOS alone:

1) "We respect other people's rights, and expect you to do the same.
You will not post content or take any action on Facebook that infringes or violates someone else's rights or otherwise violates the law.

"We can remove any content or information you post on Facebook if we believe that it violates this Statement or our policies."

2) "Posting things that don't follow the Facebook Community Standards (ex: threats, hate speech, graphic violence).

Using Facebook to bully, impersonate or harass anyone.

Abusing Facebook features (ex: sending friend requests to a lot of people you don't know). Overusing features could make other people feel uncomfortable or unsafe. As a result, we have limits in place to restrict the rate at which you can use features. Learn more about these limits."

3) "We don’t tolerate bullying or harassment. We allow you to speak freely on matters and people of public interest, but remove content that appears to purposefully target private individuals with the intention of degrading or shaming them. This content includes, but is not limited to: "

4) "Content that attacks people based on their actual or perceived race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or disease is not allowed. We do, however, allow clear attempts at humor or satire that might otherwise be considered a possible threat or attack. This includes content that many people may find to be in bad taste (ex: jokes, stand-up comedy, popular song lyrics, etc.)." (What Facebook considers hate speech)

If you attempt to embarrass or shame me again, I will look into having charges for cyberbullying, hate crimes, and civil-rights violations pressed against you.

Ted Bauer, Insularity, and Industries—Including the Technology and News Industries

With dread about the electrical grid being struck and Luddite sentiment, Ted Bauer's article about the technology industry is relevant. After all, many industries indeed become like the technology industry—"insular", monopolized, hegemonic, nepotistic, and oligarchical. For example, where in the news-reporting world is one going to find a muckraker who's willing to expose many under-the-radar matters anymore? As has been noted in many different ways, many people want complacently-sensationalistic soundbites and graphics from "trusted" veteran reporters (whether or not they are actually trustworthy and willing to produce work that at least meets journalistic standards).

One example is with regard to PM Netanyahu, Congress, and the President of the United States. Very few reporters, analysts, commentators, and other news-connected figures would care to bring up, let alone report, that PM Netanyahu is actually violating Section Three of Article Two of the U.S. Constitution by addressing Congress without first having President Obama convene the House and/ore the Senator. When one commentator/analyst and one journalist (the former being Baruch Maoz and the latter being Geraldo Rivera) did bring that point up, they were sorely lambasted (Geraldo Rivera in particular and directly was lambasted. Anyone who concurred with Baruch Maoz was through whom the lambasters attempted to excoriate Pastor Maoz.).

The "report to support Netanyahu and Congress" line was expected to be toed. Never mind that the Constitution should have been brought into the reporting of PM Netanyahu's addressing Congress without being received by the President.

One Twitter Trend Which I Particularly Despise

Now I'm really beginning to resent that #followforfollow trend. As I've said, I don't do it (I follow who I want to follow); and I really resent those who unfollow me when I didn't even solicit their follow in the first place. They act like I played that follow-for-follow game and/or they usually unfollow me without even an explanation or a hint as to why.

I've had at least four people do it (I say "four" because four specific ones initially were on or came to the front of my mind.), and two of whom did so record. The one unfollowed me (today) pretty much as soon as he followed me (yesterday), and the other unfollowed me recently (as I found out). The two others unfollowed me a while ago.

Here's a trend for them (and others who treat other Tweeters as my unfollowers treated me): #unfollowforunfollow.

Why One Change.org Petition To Facebook Matters On July 4th

We still need 96% more of 1,000 people against racism, sexism, and other abusiveness on Facebook. 4% just doesn't fully cut it, especially on July 4th and when Facebook is an American company.

I would venture to say that Facebook would be embarrassed to realize that they're allowing themselves to eschew their own TOS, which partly read:

"Facebook does not permit hate speech, but distinguishes between serious and humorous speech. While we encourage you to challenge ideas, institutions, events, and practices, we do not permit individuals or groups to attack others based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition."

However, Facebook may be perfectly okay with eschewing this part of their TOS—and, thus, the American spirit (which is embodied in, e.g., "all men are created equal" [the "Declaration of Independence"] and "establish[ing] Justice, insur[ing] domestic Tranquility, provid[ing]  for the common defence, promot[ing]  the general Welfare, and secur[ing]  the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity..." [Preamble of the U.S. Constitution]).

Nonetheless, we who are fellow Americans and/or users of the American social medium known as Facebook are not okay with Facebook eschewing their own TOS in any way, let alone in violating the American spirit in doing so.

I Feel Sorry For Orayta's Wife (If Any Woman Is Unlucky Enough To Be Such)

As the Women of the Wall attempt to follow Tanakh over the P'rushim Talmudim, this P'rushi named Orayta (who apparently never shuts up, even when he knows that he is losing an argument against both man and G-d) steps in (After I'm done preserving these tweets, by the way, Orayta is blocked. Too bad that there isn't a Yad L'Achim antipart who rescues women and others from the likes of Yad L'Achim--who I'm sure that Orayta supports.):

[Addendum: As I was preserving the tweets, Orayta's "Russia" tweet was tweeted and got him blocked:]

[Back to what I was preserving:]

Put another way, step-by-step:

  1. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear9m
So you say. And you persecute the for following Tanakh. Your problem is not with women as it is with G-d.
  2. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear10m
According to , Reform Jews are taking a Neo-Karaite approach to reading Tanakh. @TheWomenoftheWall seem to exemplify that.
  3. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear11m
: are you going to make a case against or who called themselves "rabbis" and attempted to pervert Tanakh?
  4. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear12m
Your g-d is not that of Shmu'el or that of the , then. Go read 1 Shmu'el 16:7.
  5. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear14m
Why don't you study Yirimiyahu 8? The have as far as I can tell. They let Talmud not override Tanakh.
  6. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear16m
As long as it doesn't contradict Torah, you ought to leave the alone. Besides, G-d looks at intent.
  7. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear18m
: are you going to follow or chauvinist who called themselves "rabbis" and attempted to pervert Tanakh?
  8. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear19m
via . This is what face for trying to follow Tanakh, as explains.
  9. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear21m
I (and I think that the ) hope that you have no more to say. Better that a fool hold his tongue. Shabbat Shalom.
  10. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear22m
and other women are trying to follow, e.g., B'midbar 15:37-41 & D'varim 21:22, and are persecuted by those who add to Torah.
  11. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear23m
I hope that everyone can see that wasn't kidding about the Talmud. Talmudic Judaism attempts to oppress women like .
  12. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear25m
Actually, G-d disregards Talmud. He told us to neither add nor take from Torah or the rest of Tanakh.
  13. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear26m
You only show what kind of people persecute the and women in general, and that you're one of them is a shame.
  14. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear27m
The , as you seem to testify, then, know that Tanakh either overrides Talmud or is the only Scripture.
  15. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear28m
You're persecuting the , and you responded to my tweet to them. Who's persecuting who again?
  16. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear30m
And Tanakh at the least takes precedence over Talmud, which the recognize. At most, Talmud isn't Scripture.
  17. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear33m
"Herdi" was a typo. The are trying to restore the heritage and the glory which you have corrupted.
  18. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear35m
Your lashon hara against your achot who are the is verbal abuse and persecution--worse than physical violence.
  19. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear36m
You're only adding to your avodah zara by speaking against who attempt not to have their hearts go astray.
  20. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear37m
Your g-ds are mentioned in 'Amos 5:26-27, by the way; so be careful against speaking lashon hara against the .
  21. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear39m
Your deeds certainly can't. The follow, e.g., B'midbar 15:37-41--and you dare to have them break a mitzvah?
  22. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear40m
By the way, you say that you love Israel. That's bull. You don't even love your achot who are the .
  23. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear42m
If anarchy is following the mitzvah to wear tzitziyot, then the should be anarchists and follow HaShem.
  24. Tiny Klout Flag57N. Mara Czarnecki ‏@Nickidewbear46m
The don't worship your g-d; that's for sure--and I don't want to know who your g-d is, since I worship Adonai.
