To My Persecutors...

I ask you to examine yourself. Contrary to what you want to think, I mean no harm against you or anyone else. In fact, especially if you claim to be wise, remember that "[r]ebuke is more effective for a wise man
Than a hundred blows on a fool."

This is part of why I am dealing with you. I think about you and I think about others. My actions are not just for me or my benefit. I always dread (read: sadly expect) that someone will eventually try to oppose me. I am not perfect, and I will admit when I am wrong and not walking in integrity. However, I'm right when I'm right, and I'm not right because of me—I'm right when I'm right only because of Christ.

I am not Moses; I am not Jeremiah, and I am not any other of the prophets or righteous people of blessed memories or blessed names—I am not worthy to be even considered among these. Nonetheless, I try to stand up to evil. When I do stand up to evil and you persecute me, I have to ask (as did Moses when our countrymen were persecuting him), "Why do you contend with meWhy do you tempt the Lord?"

Also, why do you glorify the Amaleks—whether or not you mean to do so? The Torah states:

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner;[c] 16 for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

The Torah does not state that we are to remember Amalek in any other way or context but in regards to what he did against Israel. We are not to revive him, and we are not to enable any Amalek in this generation. Even when we do Purim readings in the synagogues (Messianic and otherwise), we do not revive or remember Haman. In fact, we make a deliberate effort to drown out his name when we read it.


We rejoice that Haman (Yemach shemo u'zichrono.) cannot hurt us anymore, and we don't want to hear his name. Nonetheless, we don't (or at least we shouldn't) rejoice in the death of the wicked

A Favor That I Need From Howard County And Those Connected To It

As I've stated, I grew up in Columbia, Maryland—where the tragic murder-suicide at the mall happened (I didn't really talk about that before because I wanted to wait until time passed as much as possible and some normalcy was restored.). Once again, I am connected to my Diasporan hometown (though I hope that I may make aliyah in my lifetime). As such, I need a favor from fellow Columbians, and others in and connected to Howard County (Native Americans and Diasporans of all other peoples)—that is, I need you to get the word out about Maryland State Senator and Howard County Executive candidate Allan Kittleman.

As I discussed last night (and notice that I stated that as I discussed last night), President Obama's language sounds ignorant of the lesson that we read that Moshe (z"l) learned from Yitro (z"l) in Yitro (cf. esp. Shemot [Exodus] 18:13-26). On the other hand, the opposing idea of devolution and localization parallels Yitro's suggestions to Moshe.

Jews and Christians (including Jewish Christians like myself) will understand this if and as they read this week's Torah reading. Remember that Jews and Christians are to declare G-d's glory to the nations (cf. Yeshayahu 66:18-21), and part of that glory is devolution and localization. After all, what did G-d (B"H) command as the second-most important commandment to sum up Torah (cf. Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31)? "[Y]ou shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord." (Vayikra [Leviticus] 19:18b, NKJV) Either way, G-d commanded this through Yeshuawhether one believes in Jesus (Yeshua) simply as a great rebbe or a talmid l'talmud raba, or Adonai Mishichenu Himself!

Loving one's neighbor, therefore, is a mitzvah rabah, and it inherently excludes burdening one's self and others with forms of big government. As stated in Parashat Yitro:

13 And so it was, on the next day, that Moses sat to judge the people; and the people stood before Moses from morning until evening. 14 So when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did for the people, he said, “What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit, and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?”15 And Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God. 16 When they have a difficulty, they come to me, and I judge between one and another; and I make known the statutes of God and His laws.”17 So Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good. 18 Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself. 19 Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and God will be with you: Stand before God for the people, so that you may bring the difficulties to God. 20 And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do. 21 Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. 22 And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be thatevery great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you. 23 If you do this thing, and God socommands you, then you will be able to endure, and all this people will also go to their place in peace.”24 So Moses heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said. 25 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people: rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. 26 So they judged the people at all times; the hard cases they brought to Moses, but they judged every small case themselves.


Nonetheless, as aforestated, President Obama's language sounds ignorant about this. Thus, President Obama—who swore that he'd "act on [his] own" if he would have to do so—makes himself sounds as though he is willing to unnecessarily burden himself and the American people. In contrast, the late Former President Ronald Reagan (z"l) took a lesson from Yitro and devolved and localized government.

So, what does any of this have to with the favor of which I asked fellow Columbians, and others in and connected to Howard County (Native Americans and Diasporans of all other peoples)? It has to do with that:
  1. There are many Jewish and Christian (and Jewish Christian) voters in and connected to Howard County. For example, you might be a member of Congregation Beth Shalom (and if you are a member, you should already know that it's in Columbia); or you might be a friend of a congregant of Emmanuel Messianic Jewish Congregation (in Clarksville). On the other hand, your friend's friend might attend Christ Episcopal Church (in Columbia); or you yourself might attend Harvester Baptist Church (in the Howard County seat city, Ellicott City).
  2. Jews and Christians (and Jewish Christians) are among the largest voting groups in any given election.
  3. At least quite a few Jews and Christians (and Jewish Christians) would agree with the lesson that Moshe learned and that the late Former President Reagan took from Yitro. Also, what Former President Reagan stated about Hispanics is true for Jews: "They're Republicans; they just don't know it yet"—and a Massachusettsan Reform Jew (who is a counterpart to quite a few Jews in Howard County) can teach us that as well.
  4. As far as I know, Senator and County Executive candidate Allan Kittleman agrees with the very-Jewish, very-Christian, and Reaganite policies of devolution and localization.
  5. In contrast to Senator and County Executive candidate Allan Kittleman, President Obama (who is the current leader of the Democratic Party) believes in an-inherently unJewish, unChristian, and unReaganite policy of centralization and statism. Meanwhile, Senator Kittleman's rival candidate, County Councilwoman Courtney Watson, is part of President Obama's party—and the party line at the local, state, and federal levels is the line of centralization and statism.
  6. Howard County must not give in to a party line and policy that goes against the Judeo-Christian lines and policies that have made Howard County a great county, and the United States a great county, over the past century and sixty-three years.
Therefore, I urge everyone who is connected to Howard County in any way, shape, or form to get the word out about  Howard County Councilwoman Watson's (and President Obama's) rival in the Howard County Executive election, Maryland State Senator and Reaganite Allan Kittleman.

Why Not Convert To Non-Messianic Judaism? Tanakh Itself Should Give You A Hint As To Why.

If I were you, I would not convert to Judaism. I come from a Jewish background (unbeknownst to me for years), and Yeshua did not have me find out until I was secure in the Messianic Jewish (Jewish Christian) faith (and Christianity is a Jewish sect that derived from Essenism, which is with what John the Baptist was affiliated).

In Judaism, you have to keep 613 laws. Concerning the Moabites, for example: "4 An Ammonite or a Moabite shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation shall none of them enter into the assembly of the LORD for ever; 5 because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Aram-naharaim, to curse thee. 6 Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee. 7 Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever."

Yet there are other mitzvot, or laws, which state, "Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart; thou shalt surely rebuke thy neighbour, and not bear sin because of him. Thou shalt not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD."

In light of those seemingly-contradictory mitzvot, the New Testament states the following (See Romans 7:4-25 for context.):

"13 Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me."

The point is that we were willing to, in this case, hold a grudge against the Mo'avim and Amonim; and Yehovah knew that. That's why He gave us over to that sin.

Yet, if you convert to Judaism, you will have to follow logic like this:

"Whereas certain other nations are allowed to marry into Judaism (if they have converted) after a certain number of generations, when it comes to men from Amon and Mo’av descent, the Torah rules that no such people are ever allowed to marry Jews (23:4). Why are they given such harsh treatment? The pasuk (23:5) tells us that this ban is due to the fact that they hired Bilam to try and curse us, as well as the fact that they did not allow us to pass through their land to go to Eretz Yisrael; they did not greet us with food and drink. But why does this mean that they get harsher treatment than the Egyptians, for example, who can join our ranks after three generations? The Ramban (23:5) explains that these two nations (Amon and Mo’av) were expected to act kindly to us. For generations ago Avraham Avinu saved Lot (the father of both these nations) from captivity, and as such these two nations should have been grateful to us and should have aided us. But since they spurned Avraham’s kindness and exhibited a lack of gratitude, they showed themselves unworthy of joining the Jewish ranks - for a Jew’s life revolves around gratitude. The first word of the day we say is thanks (modeh), and the word yehudim comes from the word hoda’ah, which means to thank. Indeed, such is the centrality of this trait of gratitude, that the reason the Torah gives for eventually allowing Egyptians to join the Jewish fold is because (23:8) we were hosted in their land. Yes, they treated us harshly for two centuries, but (before that) they hosted us in their land and provided us with food when famine had hit Eretz Yisrael. Even for this we are to show a degree of gratitude."

On the other hand, you could become a Karaite Jew; but I already laid out what Romans 7:5-24 says, and Karaites do not believe it. So,

"Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve Him in sincerity and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.'"

The rabbis treat themselves as gods. In Bava Metzi'a 59 of the Talmud, for example:

Why [the oven of] 'Aknai? — Said Rab Judah in Samuel's name: [It means] that they encompassed it with arguments2  as a snake, and proved it unclean. It has been taught: On that day R. Eliezer brought forward every imaginable argument,3  but they did not accept them. Said he to them: 'If the halachah agrees with me, let this carob-tree prove it!' Thereupon the carob-tree was torn a hundred cubits out of its place — others affirm, four hundred cubits. 'No proof can be brought from a carob-tree,' they retorted. Again he said to them: 'If the halachah agrees with me, let the stream of water prove it!' Whereupon the stream of water flowed backwards — 'No proof can be brought from a stream of water,' they rejoined. Again he urged: 'If the halachah agrees with me, let the walls of the schoolhouse prove it,' whereupon the walls inclined to fall. But R. Joshua rebuked them, saying: 'When scholars are engaged in a halachic dispute, what have ye to interfere?' Hence they did not fall, in honour of R. Joshua, nor did they resume the upright, in honour of R. Eliezer; and they are still standing thus inclined. Again he said to them: 'If the halachah agrees with me, let it be proved from Heaven!' Whereupon a Heavenly Voice cried out: 'Why do ye dispute with R. Eliezer, seeing that in all matters the halachah agrees with him!' But R. Joshua arose and exclaimed: 'It is not in heaven.'4  What did he mean by this? — Said R. Jeremiah: That the Torah had already been given at Mount Sinai; we pay no attention to a Heavenly Voice, because Thou hast long since written in the Torah at Mount Sinai, After the majority must one incline.5
R. Nathan met Elijah6  and asked him: What did the Holy One, Blessed be He, do in that hour? — He laughed [with joy], he replied, saying, 'My sons have defeated Me, My sons have defeated Me.

Speaking Of Shabbat...

If I already posted this from Yahoo! Answers before, please let me know. Nonetheless, a refresher always helps. On Shabbat especially, to talk about the different forms of Judaism would begin to give others—including Jews who don't know what the heck their own people do, and those who suspect that they are Jewish and would like to have an idea of what Jews do—an idea of what Jews do on Shabbat. Granted that this is basic, modified from the original Yahoo! post, and more for reference than anything else; but it should still give you an idea of what Jews do on Shabbat.

Conservative Judaism is the closest form of Judaism to Orthodox (really, Orthodox Pharisaic) Judaism. Conservative (Masorti) Judaism broke away from Reform Judaism in order to maintain Matrilineal Descent as the rue for "Who is a Jew?" and other traditions, although they do not believe in the inerrancy of Tanakh or the Talmud. The hierarchy is something along the lines of: 

1) Haredi ("Hasidi", "Chabad") Judaism (including Kabbalah) 2) Orthodox Judaism 3) Conservadox Judaism 4) Reformodox Judaism 5) Conservative (Masorti) Judaism 6) Reform (Liberal, "Progressive") Judaism 7) Reconstructionist Judaism 8) Renewal Judaism or Alternative Judaism 9) Humanistic Judaism 10) Atheistic Judaism 


There's also Karaite (Mikra'iti, Scripturalist) Judaism and Messianic (Christian) Judaism, neither of which are accepted by Pharisaic (Mainstream) Judaism.

Now that you have an idea of each of the forms of Judaism, you can pretty much guess what a Jew who affiliates with a given denomination of Judaism does on Shabbat. If you can't, keep reading...

1) Haredi ("Hasidi", "Chabad") Judaism (including Kabbalah)—will not work on Shabbat. "Work" certainly includes even writing, and may even include walking for the extremely-haredi Jew. For the Jew who does not even walk on Shabbat, he or she may sit in his or her home and privately worship (He or she would certainly not walk to shul.). If he or she has any light on in his or her dwelling, the light will come only from the Shabbat candles, as "work" includes turning on a light switch!
2) Orthodox Judaismwill not work on Shabbat. "Work" may include even writing for the more-Orthodox Jew (as opposed to the Modern Orthodox Jew, depending on what he or she is writing). He or she will usually walk to shul, and drive only if tikun ha'olam v'piku'ach nefesh (e.g., getting a disabled family member to shul) requires him or her to do so (He or she may hire a shabbos goy to drive the family member, however.). If he or she has any light on in his or her dwelling, the light will come only from the Shabbat candles, as "work" includes turning on a light switch!
3) Conservadox Judaism—will mix Conservative and Orthodox practices.
4) Reformodox Judaismwill mix Reform and Orthodox practices. 
5) Conservative (Masorti) Judaismmay or may not work on Shabbat, depending on whether he or she leans toward being Orthodox or Reform. "Work" may include even writing for the more-Orthodox Conservative Jew (as opposed to the more-Modern-Orthodox Jew, depending on what he or she is writing). He or she will usually walk to shul, and drive only if tikun ha'olam v'piku'ach nefesh (e.g., getting a disabled family member to shul) requires him or her to do so (He or she may hire a shabbos goy to drive the family member, however.). If he or she has any light on in his or her dwelling, the light may come only from the Shabbat candles, as "work" may include turning on a light switch! 
6) Reform (Liberal, "Progressive") Judaismmay or may not work on Shabbat, depending on whether he or she leans toward being more traditional or more liberal. "Work" may include even writing for the more-Orthodox Reform Jew (as opposed to the less-Orthodox Reform Jew, depending on what he or she is writing). He or she will usually drive to shul—if he or she attends shul at all.  He or she will also likely turn on light switches.
7) Reconstructionist Judaismmay or may not work on Shabbat, depending on whether he or she leans toward being more traditional or more liberal. He or she will write, usually drive to shul—if he or she attends shul at all—, and likely turn on light switches. 
8) Renewal Judaism or Alternative Judaismmay or may not work on Shabbat, depending on whether he or she leans toward being more traditional or more liberal. He or she will write, drive to shul—if he or she attends shul at all, and turn on light switches.  
9) Humanistic Judaismwould not be opposed to working on Shabbat. He or she will write, drive to shul—if he or she attends shul at all, and turn on light switches.  
10) Atheistic Judaismwould not be opposed to working on Shabbat. He or she will write, drive to shul—if he or she attends shul at all, and turn on light switches. 


Karaite Judaism and Messianic (Christian) Judaism, meanwhile, accept few to no Orthodox practices as authoritative. Karaite and Messianic Jews, therefore, usually work on Shabbat except for in the ways which are prohibited by TaNaKh—for Messianics, TaNaKH ("H" stands for "[B'rit] Hadashah", or "New [Covenant] [or "New Testament"]"). Both Karaites and Messianics usually write, drive to shul, and turn on light switches.

The Shanah L'Kesafim Blog Entry Is Delayed. Meanwhile....

Please say "Kaddish" in memory of the victims of 9/11 and all victims of terrorism before and after 9/11. L'laila l'yizkor. PS Please read Page 251 of the 9/11 Commission Report and understand what 9/11 was really about. Every day, my relatives who made aliyah and were born b'Ha'Eretz Yisra'el live as though something like 9/11 had just happened or will happen again.

Remember, too, that bin Laden's name and memory have yet to be wiped out, even though we wiped out bin Laden (Y'Sh'v'Z). Someday, bin Laden's name and memory will exist and remain only in Hell, where bin Laden himself (Y'Sh'v'Z) is consigned for eternity. "“Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people; For He will avenge the blood of His servants, And render vengeance to His adversaries; He will provide atonement for His land and His people.”" (Deuteronomy 32:43. Also see Psalm 9:11-14.) and "I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." (Revelation 20:12-14)

Let me assure, once in the Name of the Father, that bin Laden and his co conspirators (Y'Sh'v'Z) are not in the Book of Life.Let me assure, once in the Name of the Son, that bin Laden and his co conspirators (Y'Sh'v'Z) are not in the Book of Life.

Let me assure, once in the name of the Ru'ach HaKodesh, that bin Laden and his co conspirators (Y'Sh'v'Z) are not in the Book of Life!

Example of Not-So-Obvious Jews: Andrew and Julia Fosko Rusnak

The Rusnaks (Rusznaks, Rosnaks, etc.) were Levites. Gyorgy "György Kvetkovits" and Erzsébet Molnárová Rusznák converted out of P'rushi Judaism during Anti Semitism and self exiled to what is now Zláta Idka. Andrew's dad was Jákáb Rusznák, and the Foczkos were Crypto-Jewish Levites themselves. Andrew even specifically wrote to Juliana Foczková, asking her to come to America and marry him. One can safely assume that this is because Juliana was a Levite, and for several reasons--including that at least some the Rusnaks who stayed in traditional Judaism married intratribally (e.g., Ieshaihau Iehiel  HaLevi Rosenblite and Miriam Rosia HaLevit Rosnoková Rosenbliteová ), and there were at least quite a few marriages between the families of Juliana's parents (István Foczko and Johanna Hanzóková Foczková, whose mother was a Lázárová--although whether she was a kohenet and descendant of Ele'azar HaKohein ben-Aharon HaKohein ben-'Amram HaLevi [אלעזר כהן בן אהרן הכהן בן 'עמרם הלוי] cannot be determined). The reasons mentioned hearken to Numbers 36:5-12 (despite the P'rushi attempt to lift of the ban on intertribal marriage).

It reads in part, "In Jewish sources, the term anusim is applied not only to the forced converts themselves, but also to their descendants who clandestinely cherished their Jewish faith, attempting to observe at least vestiges of the *halakhah, and loyalty to their Jewish identity." Anusim and bnei-Anusim like Andrew and Julia could and/or did not observe everything due to dread of Anti Semitism (e.g., "Following the establishment of the Inquisition, Jewish observance by New Christians became dangerous as well as difficult." In the same way in Europe, Andrew's grandparents had to actually be "acquitted" to marry, thus proving their conversion genuine in the eyes of the Slovakian-Hungarian Vaticanist Church.).

From a Question on Yahoo! Answers: "How Do You Reconcile Daniel In the Lions' Den With Six Million Daniels in the Gas Chambers?"

Let's look at the following Scripture:

Who is the Angel of the Lord?


"20 Behold, I send an angel before thee, to keep thee by the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. 21 Take heed of him, and hearken unto his voice; be not rebellious against him; for he will not pardon your transgression; for My name is in him. 22 But if thou shalt indeed hearken unto his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries. 23 For Mine angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I will cut them off."
We know, then, that the Angel of the Lord IS the Lord (thus, why He is Yehovah-Tzva'ot--Yehovah of Hosts). Thus, Yeshua was with the Holocaust victims as much as He was with Daniel's friends--even if he did not save them from physical death. For what has Yehovah stated? "Behold, they may gather together, but not by Me; whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall because of thee."


Sometimes, evil happens; and even if Yehovah does not rescue us from every consequence of it, He is with us in it--just like He was with the Holocaust victims.

Playing With Fire In the Name of Yeshua And In the Profession of Messianic Judaism

As a Messianic Jew, I am absolutely offended by this article. Firstly, we're not even to use titles like "Rabbi" or "Rav" but for Yeshua (cf. Matt 23:8-10). Secondly, we're under the New Covenant, no longer Torah (cf. Romans 7:4-25, Colossians 2:13-17). Yeshua came to fulfill the Torah, and Torah is mandatory only for non-believing Jews and gerim (cf. Matthew 5:17-19, Galatians 3, 4:21-31). Thirdly, in using "Rabbi" or "Rav" for Messianic pastors and requiring ourselves to be under Torah, we ourselves are falling away and agreeing with our very enemies (cf. Galatians 3:17, 5:7-12). We can't even keep Torah if we try, and good luck to those of us who try to burden ourselves with Torah (cf. Acts 15:10, Hebrews 6:4-6).

Closing Thought For The Night: Non-Messianic Judaism Versus Messianic Judaism

Non-Messianic Judaism says, "I can attain merit on my own righteousness and follow tradition." Messianic Judaism says, "'And he believed in the LORD; and He counted it to him for righteousness.'--So if Abraham had to rely on G-d and on faith, what of me?! I can't do it on my own! 'Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.' Since human nature is like skin color, I can't rely on myself--I have to rely on G-d to merit my righteousness!" L'laila tov.

What Is Working On Shabbat? Does Driving Count?

Working on Shabbat is not any of the following, which needs to be addressed in order to understand what working on Shabbat is:

  1. Playing on the computer or any other device.
  2. Driving or walking to Shabbat services at your local synagogue or church (To the brats--and I address you later as well--, you ought to get some fresh air and realize that there are Jews and Israelophilic gentiles who observe Shabbat services in churches.).
  3. Preparing your food (which is specifically in Tanakh).
  4. Kindling fire for non-work purposes (which is implied in Tanakh).
  5. Bathing (unless you're bathing after you've engaged in certain activities; which, under the Old Covenant, you're arguably not supposed to be doing on Shabbat).
  6. Anything else that isn't intended as work (e.g., flushing a toilet).
Firstly, "[I]t is not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." If it is not intended as work, it is not work. Secondly, "no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done by you." The first day of Pesach is like Shabbat--you cannot work except for what you need to eat. Some will ask, "Well, what about as gathering the manna was or the Jubilee Year is? Shouldn't you prepare your food the day [or year] before, and double what you would prepare on every other day?" That may not work for everybody. For example, the composition of a food can change even in an hour depending on that which the food is exposed to; and that may not work for someone whose system is intolerant of even the slightest--v.g.--fermentation or temperature change in food, and they may need to eat only fresh foods. So, leaving out that challah for an hour or refrigerating that wine may be breaking piku'ach nefesh--saving a life (e.g., choosing life in the first place)--anyway, and piku'ach nefesh comes first. 

Besides (though this is another discussion), making Shabbat the Queen, the challah, the candle lighting, and the wine were all practices to Sikkut and Kiy'un (like the Star of David was a pagan symbol)--and Messianics can redeem those practices; Non Messianics (arguably) can not. That's part of why at least some Karaites don't follow those practices, and they look for "Rabbi"nical ways to be cleansed from Israel. 

As for the man who was gathering wood on Shabbat--since he needs to be addressed and was going to be brought up, anyway--was intending to work. Again, God looks at intent. As one woman stated (with my emphasis put on her words), "But what constitutes "for real" [Shabbatnikery]? Not using electricity? Not using money? Not watering the crops? Going to synagogue? I think it's clear that one can choose to observe a sabbath in many ways - from spending time with friends and family to not doing job-related work to having people over for a Friday night meal - any statistics will be self-reported and most likely not well-defined here." (Also, to be fair and for example, watering your gluten-free crops for your gluten-intolerant family member or your beloved flowers in your gadren is not work.).

Also, if you can't figure out why I'm linking to certain books in the JPS Tanakh, then you go look up the specific verses on BibleGateway yourself--I don't want to use the New King James Version and get accused of proselytizing by certain brats (and you know who you are; and that's the nicest way that I can describe you, since you are--and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt by stating that you are--acting like petulant children).
