How liberal Erica Rivera is has really influenced Geraldo. Eric Cantor recently pointed out that tikun ha'olam is often too sadly associated with liberalism, which it shouldn't be or have to be. Erica, being a member of Central Synagogue and under the clergyship of "Today I Am a Muslim" Peter J. Rubinstein, is a terrible influence on Geraldo and has somehow affected Geraldo to be one of the kinds of liberal Jews about whom Eric Cantor was talking about. I've blogged about Erica and will keep blogging about her until someone realizes that the 32-years-younger, influence- and fame-hungry wife of Geraldo Rivera is why Geraldo is becoming more liberal in part-- he's trying to live up to the typical (including Erica's) liberalized version of tikun ha'olam to please Erica.
The typical, Erica Rivera type of tikun ha'olam mandates that hypocrisy is okay and is an ends to justify the means. For example, supporting decadent and New Agey Oprah, befriending Tiki and to-be Traci Lynn Johnson Barber, and having an "Obama no matter what" attitude is beyond hypocrisy. How is supporting a woman who even tried to copyright "Aha!" and got involved in a costly legal battle while children are starving in Africa tikun ha'olam? How is supporting and befriending a man and woman who destroyed a family, especially when you won't let your own husband appear on "Dancing With the Stars" for dread that your family might be destroyed, tikun ha'olam? How is supporting corrupt Barack Obama when you won't support Ron Paul tikun ha'olam, especially when neither Obama nor Ron Paul are good for tikun ha'olam? How is having two new purebred dogs when you could rescue dogs and already have two dogs tikun ha'olam?
Erica's kind of tikun ha'olam is a "Let everyone else do all the work" and "Let me follow what's convenient for me when it's convenient for me" kind of tikun ha'olam (which is how Reform Judaism treats the 613 mitzvot, even the Aseret HaD'varim, by the way; which explains why Erica is involved with Reform Judaism).
